The Yaruquí Hospital, located northeast of Quito, was the venue for the Demonstration Workshop of Integrated Health Services Networks (RISS). The purpose of the initiative, promoted by the Ministry of Public Health (MSP) is to guarantee the provision of more accessible, equitable, efficient and quality health services, better meeting the expectations of the populations.

Óscar Barreneche, representative of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) in Ecuador, said that in the countries that have a network of first-level care services, they are the ones that were able to respond to the needs presented by COVID-19. . “We have committed to supporting these initiatives and managing resources to provide technical cooperation.”

The project addresses the problem of the fragmentation of health services and seeks to respond to the need to move towards the production and delivery of comprehensive health care for all the inhabitants of a country, in compliance with various commitments and mandates. international.

Carmen Guerrero, Vice Minister of Comprehensive Health Care, explained that work is underway to consolidate four specialized micro-networks in: mental health, maternal and neonatal care, malnutrition, and chronic non-communicable and oncological diseases.

In addition, he pointed out that “the entire first-level team, hospitals and the Zonal Coordination 9 – Health have worked on the reactivation of the networks, with a much stronger and more consistent structure.”

This State portfolio strengthens comprehensive care and access to quality services aimed at the population of all of Ecuador.
