DECRYPTION – All the players in the sector agree on the need to explain to the general public the issues linked to the development of this local nuclear power.
Develop small modular nuclear reactors (SMR) in France, but for what purpose? A very concrete start to a response is provided by the signing of a partnership agreement between the French company Naarea and the battery manufacturer ACC. This is the first industrial application made public, with a specific use case to provide heat and electricity to a factory, next to which the Naarea reactor (XAMR) would be installed.
“This contract goes well beyond the simple customer-supplier relationship, it includes an important phase of reflection on the method of supplying a factory, the connection, the way in which the acceptability of the project must be understood,” explains Jean-Luc Alexandre, CEO of Naarea. The first step will be to determine what answers this mini power plant can provide to ACC factories: starting with the supply of carbon-free electricity, not only to produce the batteries, but also to charge them for the first time.
