Meeting at the Town Hall with the Agencies

The Mayor of Artaia, Christoforos Siafakas, held a meeting with the City Authorities on Monday, February 19, 2024, which aimed to inform them about the observance of traffic regulations on the pedestrian streets of the city center.
The meeting was attended by the General Secretary of the Municipality X. Papanikolaou, the Deputy Mayors Dimitrios Evangelou, Michalis Kotsarinis, Chariklia Sfaltou, Maria Ligoura and Kostas Haraklias, the Head of the Municipal Police Department of the Municipality, the Police Director Achilleas Dervenis, the president of the Artas Trade Association Dimitrios Chouliaras, the President of Catering and Entertainment of Arta, Giorgos Ganiatsas, the presidents of Fortotaxi and Radiotaxi of Arta, Panagiotis Fluudas and Fotios Kefis, the representative of the Municipal People’s Market, Michael Kaselouris and other involved bodies.
During the meeting, an update was given by the Mayor on the decision to comply to the maximum with the regulations regarding traffic on the pedestrian streets. The resulting joint decision shows the commitment of all Agencies to create an environment that promotes respect for pedestrians, their healthy and safe movement.

It should be mentioned that on Friday February 17, the Mayor and the Deputy Mayors, Dimitris Evangelou and Michalis Kotsarini, visited Priovolou Street, an important pedestrian street next to the Municipal Market of the Municipality, which serves the citizens every day, as well as an announcement by the Municipal Police about the establishment of the important policy concerning the prohibition of vehicle traffic on pedestrian streets.
This ban aims to protect pedestrians and improve the pedestrian environment as a safe and friendly space. In this context, drivers should respect traffic regulations and avoid entering sidewalks, leaving these spaces exclusively for pedestrian use. Mutual respect for our fellow citizens is a basic principle for the creation of a united and humane society.
Car traffic on sidewalks is a safety hazard for pedestrians and violates the regulatory frameworks established for road traffic. Sidewalks are designed for the safe movement of pedestrians and their use as places of recreation and entertainment, not for the passage of vehicles.
Sidewalks belong to pedestrians.
