The capital’s municipal council will vote on the three sports programs for 2024, based on the proposals of departmental deputy mayor Yana Genova and the chairman of the Sports Commission Dimitar Shalafov. This is clear from a press release of SOS.
The programs “Sofia sports”, “Sports for high achievements” and “Sofia – a city of the young and active” have a record budget of over BGN 3 million, and once the city parliament has made its decision, applications for them will begin.
The program “Sofia – a city of the young and active” is aimed at the needs of the young people of the capital and is implemented in 3 sub-programs. The first of them will finance projects that ensure full and active participation of young people (aged 15 to 29 ) in the public life of the city and which create a favorable, encouraging and supportive environment for their effective professional and personal realization. The focus of the second sub-program are large-scale events and festivals with and for young people, with the participation of young artists to the active inclusion of disadvantaged youth in public life. The budget for this has been increased from BGN 150,000 for 2023 to BGN 200,000 for 2024. The maximum amount for financing a project has also been increased – from BGN 7,000 for 2023 at BGN 10,000 for 2024. Project proposals will be accepted from May 7 to June 7.
The program “Sofia sports” aims to form a need and lasting habits for physical and sports activity among children and youth, people of retirement age, people in a disadvantaged position, socially excluded groups, people of working age for practicing sports, as an important factor , for a healthy lifestyle. In 2023, the Program financed project proposals with a total budget of BGN 390,000, and 140 projects were implemented. This year, the budget was increased to BGN 800,000. Accordingly, the maximum grants for one project. In the “Sports in the region” subprogram, a regional administration can be financed with up to BGN 12,000, compared to last year, when it fought for up to BGN 4,000.
The sub-program “Sports for children and students” will support project activities of schools and kindergartens up to BGN 4,000. The program “Sports for all”, incl. the sub-programs “Student sports”, “Movement, health and active lifestyle”, “I’m in the game” and “Sports at the workplace” will provide up to BGN 8,000 per approved project. The application period is from April 29 to May 30, 2024.
The program “Sport for high achievements” includes the sub-programme “Sports Capital”, the budget of which is increased from BGN 80,000 in 2023 to BGN 200,000 for the current year. In this way, international sports events on the territory of Sofia will be supported, as well as the participation of students and young people in various international forums. The sub-program provides awards to children and youth who have achieved high achievements in the field of sports. In 2024, more than 200 students, youth and athletes with disabilities will be awarded on the occasion of May 17, Bulgarian Sports Day.
A sub-programme for the development of children’s and youth sports also increases the amount of funds it will have at its disposal. The total budget for the year 2024 is in the amount of BGN 1,950,000, and for comparison in the year 2023, the subprogram operated with BGN 900,000.
60% of the amount is for sports clubs developing Olympic collective sports, 40% for sports clubs developing Olympic individual sports. And the beneficiaries are the sports clubs with children’s and youth schools, registered for public benefit, developing activities and with registration on the territory of the Capital Municipality. The maximum value for financing one project is up to BGN 40,000. Applications open on April 29 and close on May 28, 2024.
Sofia also has a program for the construction and repair of municipal sports infrastructure. Through it, in 2023, seven projects with a total value of BGN 440,000 were financed, and this year the budget of the program is BGN 1,020,000.
