Last night (Tuesday) the singer Shlomo Gronich caused a great stir when he addressed the audience during his performance at the Ein Gev Festival and said that “I looked at the audience and said, I always want an audience like this. “Of course, action like vultures. Well, I’m proud of you, you sing well.”

Following the remarks of the festival host, Nesli Barda, took the stage and scolded him, as a result Gronich apologized to the audience. “I’m really sorry for the silly statement. I do not know where I got this bad joke from, I apologize from the bottom of my heart,” he said. “In light of my collaborations over the years I cannot be suspected of being a racist.”

Although Gronich apologized for his remarks, he was severely criticized by MKs, singers and the general public. Today (Wednesday) the Kfar Yona municipality decided to cancel his performance that was expected to take place at the “Shabbat Tarbut” events later this month.

The municipality of Kfar Yona has updated that another singer has already been found who will replace Gronich.

Shoshi Kahlon Kidor, mayor of Kfar Yona, said: “We are disappointed with the statement of Shlomo Gronich, who does not correspond with the municipality’s policy, which makes room for everyone and everyone. I am sorry for the artist and the statement, which express intolerance that produces division.”

As you may recall, many artists responded to Gronich’s expression. Jordana Arazi wrote: “As an original Ashkenazi, Shlomo Gronich’s statement stuck an arrow in my heart. For years I have plowed the land and loved it for all its inhabitants.

Aviv Geffen also responded: “I have no sympathy for racists.”

Eyal Golan also responded and wrote: “I am sorry that in 2022 there are dark people who have been stuck in the past.” He added: “I am fortunate that my audience is made up of all the shades and colors that exist in this country,” Czechs, Ashkenazis, Mizrahis, Russians, Ethiopians, Druze and more and more. “
