The Municipality of Northern Tzoumerka is entering the rhythms of Carnival, with the cultural associations preparing for the lighting of the jamala or Depo, as it is called in many villages of Katsanochoria, the revival of traditional events, while in Pramanta a carnival parade will be organized again this year.

Events will also take place on Maundy Monday, with the Lenten table set in most local communities. The Municipality of Northern Tzoumerko will make available plenty of wine and Lenten dishes to the Cultural Associations, who in turn will offer them free of charge to locals and visitors, who are expected to fill the tourist accommodation in the area and become a company around the fires and in Lent table, enjoying an authentic Halloween, with fun and flavor of tradition.

The Pramantiotiko Carnival

The center of attraction for the wider area of ​​Tzoumerki is the Pramantiotiko Carnival, which will take place on Sunday, March 17, at the headquarters of the Municipality of North Tzoumerki.
The start of the carnival parade will take place at 3:00 p.m. from the “Buga” district and will end an hour later in the central square of Pramanto, where traditional events will be revived, such as the merry-go-round and the “kalatzis”, while there will also be a musical program with Dj. At the same time, there will be traditional treats with “Eudoxia” tsipouro and “Butzas” cheeses.
At 7 pm, Tzamala will be lit in the square and “The Band Instrument” will take the baton of entertainment with Latin and Greek songs, to be followed by a traditional municipal orchestra. The wine will flow abundantly, while the Pramanto Women’s Association will prepare a rich buffet of traditional pies.
The feast will continue on Clean Monday, March 18, with the Kouloumas being celebrated in the central square of Pramanto. The Municipality of North Tzoumerko will offer traditional bean salad and Lenten dishes, while the attendees will be entertained by a traditional municipal orchestra.

Every village and fire

Carnival events will also be organized in the larger communities of the Municipality on Sunday, March 17, with the local associations setting up feasts around the fires.
Fires will be lit in Elliniko, Kalendzi, Plaisia, Pigadia, Monolithi and Platanousa in the Municipal Unit of Katsanochoria, in Chouliarades, Mihalitsi and
Baptist (at 1 p.m.) in the Municipal Unit of Tzoumerka, in Matsouki and Kalarrites.

Koulouma with Lent and kites

Events will be held in many villages on Clean Monday to celebrate the Kouloumas, with bean salad, laganas, halva and plenty of wine. And of course, weather permitting and wind helping, the kites will also fly.
In N.E. Katsanohoria traditional bean salad and Lenten dishes will be offered at 11 in the morning by the Cultural Associations of Kalentziou, Kostitsiou, Plaisia, Pigadion, Monolithiou and Platanoussa, in D.E. In Tzoumerkon, the Charity Association of Petrovouni “O Katsantonis”, the Irrigation Association “To Louzzino”, the Old Villagers Association of Ioannina, the Brotherhood of Michalitsou “Agios Nikolaos” and the Philoprogressive Brotherhood of Chouliarados, while Koulouma will also be celebrated in Vathypedo and Sirrako.
In Kalarrites, at 11 a.m. on Clean Monday, there will be a revival of “Tego” (Carnival), with a procession through the cobbled streets of the village and then the burning in the village square. Traditional bean soup and Lenten dishes will also be offered there.
