On Tuesday, June 18, 2024, the city of Quito began to demolish the Shyris tribune, an important place for the city. Due to its poor condition and because it is a dangerous place, it will be replaced by a safe road.

The Shyris Grandstand used to be a place where many people gathered to watch parades and celebrations in QuitoBut due to the poor condition of the buildings and the security problems in that area, the Municipality decided to demolish it.

The demolition process of the De los Shyris grandstand will be divided into four stages. First, devices will be placed on De los Shyris Avenue to slow down cars. Then, in the second phase, objects blocking access to the stands will be removed.

According to Fernando Tovar, manager of Public Works at the Metropolitan Public Mobility and Public Works Company (EPMMOP), the third stage includes the demolition of the grandstand, a process that is expected to take around 90 days.

In the final stage, they will build a boulevard with lights, walkways and vegetation, as part of the “Safe Path” project. It is expected to be ready by December 2024.

They began demolishing the place by removing the mesh that blocked access to the stands and put a green tarp around it to indicate that they are working in that area. The Epmmop is in charge of this work to make the place safer and renovate it so that people can use it better.
