The police arrested last night, after an intelligence operation, a 22-year-old suspect, a resident of Kankhet, on suspicion of involvement in the murder of Yuri Volkov. Today (Friday) it was allowed to be published that the suspect in the murder is Adi Mizrahi, a 22-year-old resident of Holon. In the hearing held in court, the charges against him were detailed, when first the charge appeared – “she died recklessly” only. After deliberations and examination with the investigating authorities and the prosecutor’s office, the police decided to attribute to him the crime of murder, conspiracy to commit a crime, obstruction of justice and assistance after the fact. The court decided to extend his detention by six days.
At first, the police considered attributing the death to the defendant with carelessness only. But, apparently after criticism from the family of the deceased and other factors, they brought the police representative to file a charge of murder in the end. The Tel Aviv District Court continues with covert technological activities in order to collect findings and evidence that will link the suspect to the crime of murder.
Let’s recall that Adi Mizrahi was wearing a helmet and his identity details were unknown, and only covert surveillance resulted in his arrest along with two others, when the two arrived at his home in the Jesse Cohen neighborhood in Holon and left him riding a motorcycle. The police estimate that the two helped the suspect smuggle the motorcycle he was riding during the incident.
Attorney Avishag Cohen, who represents Adi Mizrahi on behalf of the public defender: “The investigation is in its early stages and we will wait for the police to finish the investigation. At the same time, we expect the Police to investigate the conduct of the police officers that led to the shooting injury of a pregnant woman.”
As a reminder, Yuri Volkov, a 52-year-old employee of the Ichilov Hospital, was stabbed to death yesterday after being injured following an argument about the right of way on the road on Eilat Street at the corner of Yoseftal in Holon. From the footage of a car camera that happened to be at the scene of the incident, the motorcyclist climbs a traffic block at the intersection and blocks his wife’s path. Later, Volkov is seen trying to help her while exchanging words with the motorcyclist, who apparently takes out a sharp object, stabs him in the upper body and runs away.
