As part of her participation in the 27th edition of the Fez Festival of World Sacred Music, Khadija El Afrit took a large audience on a unique musical journey towards oriental sounds interpreted in a free and semi-improvised style.

During the show which consisted of interpretations of “Istikhbar”, the precise fingering of the virtuoso El Afrit was accompanied by rhythms on the violin and tambourine, giving her melodies a particular charm and brilliance.

This concert was distinguished by its richness and diversity, including spiritual flights, instrumental improvisations and lyrical songs.

In a statement to MAP, musician Naoufel Ben Aissa said that Istikhbar is based on manuscripts dating from the second half of the 19th century, a period when recording techniques had not yet been invented.

Mr. Ben Aissa, who is also a professor at the Higher Institute of Music in Tunis, added that he took the initiative to research, study and translate these manuscripts into audible musical material, especially since this intangible heritage is important for its richness and symbolism for Tunisia and the Maghreb, since it is the “mâluf”, which is a pure Andalusian heritage.

Placed under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the Festival will be held from May 24 to June 1 under the theme “The Quest for the Spirit of Al-Andalus”.

In this new edition, Spain was chosen as guest of honor to celebrate the historical and present ties that unite Spain and Morocco.

The 27th edition of this festival, a special moment of the spirit of living together, dialogue and tolerance, is marked by a musical program bringing together several artists and troupes from both countries who will express through their fusions and their shows this particular dimension of openness, harmony and living together for a better future.
