After last week’s gold medal winner Linoy Ashram announced that her “Olympic necklace” had been stolen, police are now announcing that she has found it.

As you may recall, a week ago the artistic gymnast discovered that a special diamond necklace in the shape of the official emblem of the Olympic Games awarded to her after winning gold in Beijing, was taken from her bag.

“My necklace, which she gave me after the Olympics, was taken tonight from my bag at the Wingate Institute,” Ashram announced. “I really want to find the original necklace, it is very important to me, I have an emotional connection to it, and beyond that, I do not want to bother them to create another necklace. So I really want to believe that in the next two days the necklace will come back to me in some way.”

Police now announce that detectives from the Jisr a-Zarqa station have found the chain in question on the body of a suspect in the village. The suspect was arrested for questioning and at the end of his interrogation was imprisoned. This morning, he will be brought to the Hadera court for a hearing, requesting an extension of his detention.

This is not the first time a gold medal winner in the country has had to deal with this type of theft. In 2005, the gold medal of Israeli windsurfer Gal Friedman, who won first place at the 2004 Athens Olympics, was stolen. Police then found the medal shortly after the theft in the village of Fordis. The gold medal was thrown in one of the woods in the area.
