The exhibition “Mystical beauty of weapons (Azerbaijani weapons of the 16th-19th centuries)” opened at the National Museum of Azerbaijani History on June 28 of this year continues successfully.

For the first time, about 300 copies of unique and unusual weapons made by Azerbaijani masters are presented in the exhibition pavilions.

The uniqueness and unusualness of these weapons lies in their individuality and originality. A highly individual work – the weapon is essentially a work of weaponry. For example, a steel shield depicting fragments from the work of the Azerbaijani poet Nizami Ganjavi. Visitors can see the personal weapons of prominent personalities, including the unique ornamented daggers of the brilliant Azerbaijani philosopher Mirza Fatali Akhundov and the singer Jabbar Garyagdi. There are also examples of weapons from the collection of the Azerbaijani poet Mir-Movsum Navvab: a helmet, a chain hammer, a battle ax, armor.

The exhibition includes the following: the sword of Abbas Mirza Qajar, the ruler of Azerbaijan, who fought with the troops of the Russian emperors for nearly twenty years, the zulfiqar (sword) specially made for Nasiruddin Shah Qajar on the eve of the war with Great Britain, the dagger of the well-known state and public figure, academician Aziz Aliyev, writer and playwright Najafbey The holster of Vazirov’s Mauser, the dagger that was taken to Turkey by the Deputy of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic Ibrahim Bey Heydarov and recently returned to the Motherland by his close relatives, the dagger of the Iravan Khanate from the collection of Prince Vorontsov, the firearms and cold weapons of the soldiers of the Azerbaijan platoon of the convoy of Russian emperors.

The exhibition of weapons for children has a special place in the exhibition. This once again confirms the thesis that in the East, including Azerbaijan, owning a weapon and treating it with respect was taught from childhood, by the way, the amazed Alexander Dumas (father) wrote about it with surprise. Some of the weapons displayed in the exhibition were taken from prominent figures of Azerbaijan who were repressed and requisitioned by the People’s Commissariat of Internal Affairs, and then handed over to the National History Museum.

The history and culture of each nation determines its uniqueness. This exhibition also confirms it. But today, in many museums of the world, handicrafts of Azerbaijani craftsmen are presented as works of Iranian or North Caucasian craftsmen. The time has come to demand the necessary place in the world’s museum catalogs for works of art created by the hands of Azerbaijanis. It is worth thinking about returning to the Motherland Azerbaijani relics from foreign museums – for example, flags, weapons, keys to the cities of Azerbaijani khanates stored in the Hermitage, as well as in the Museum of Military-Historical Artillery, museums of communication and missile forces (both museums are in St. Petersburg). The Greeks can demand the return of the Parthenon tiles from the British Museum, and the Egyptians can demand the return of pharaonic treasures from the Louvre. The museum teaches history, without it there is no future. Therefore, it is worth visiting the weapons exhibition in Baku to make sure that weapons are an integral part of Azerbaijani culture, like carpets, kalaghayi, nets or baklava.

The exhibition will continue until September, after which the exhibits will be returned to the funds.
