The Minister of Youth and Sports Georgi Glushkov was a special guest at the ceremonial opening of the 2024/2025 school year at the Vasil Levski National Sports Academy.
“It is my pleasure to welcome you to the start of the school year. I am sure that you cross the threshold of your university with the belief that you will find new opportunities for development, improvement, acquisition of knowledge and achievement of your goals, Minister Glushkov addressed the students.
The Vasil Levski National Sports Academy is one of the most prestigious higher education institutions in our country and offers sports education at the highest academic level. I am personally convinced of this and you should believe me. I know that all of you, the students of Academy, you will meet all challenges in your professional path thanks to the academy’s highly qualified scientific and teaching staff.”
Glushkov wished the students success in studies and in sports in the new school year, and the teachers – achievement of academic goals and satisfaction from work for the good professional realization and growth of their graduates.
The leadership of Vasil Levski National Sports Academy awarded the Olympic champions, medalists and participants of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris, who are students of the university – champions Carlos Nassar (weightlifting) and Semen Novikov (wrestling), Olympic vice-champion Boryana Kalein (artistic gymnastics ), as well as Rachel Stoyanov (rhythmic gymnastics, ensemble), Stella Eneva (athletics), boxers Stanimira Petrova and Svetlana Staneva, badminton players Gabriela and Stefani Stoevi, Tihomir Ivanov (athletics), Petar Mitsin (swimming), Stiliyana Nikolova (artistic gymnastics), Yuliana Yaneva (wrestling), Bozhidar Sarboyukov (athletics) and Todor Mihalev (modern pentathlon).
Minister Glushkov also participated in the opening of the renovated indoor athletics track at the school. The overall reconstruction of the facility amounts to BGN 1,150,000, and the co-financing by the Ministry of Youth and Sports is BGN 452,036.88.
“I am glad that in symbiosis we finalized another project. I thank the management of the National Sports Academy “Vasil Levski” for the work they put into modernizing the sports base and striving to provide the best possible conditions for their students. You can see how much work has been done in recent years and I believe that there is no stop here, and you will be even more motivated to continue doing excellent things,” said Minister Glushkov.
The renovated indoor hall includes a 110m running track, a long and triple jump section, a discus and shot put section.
The ceremony was also honored by the Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Stoyan Andonov, the rector of Vasil Levski National Academy of Sciences Prof. Krasimir Petkov, the honorary rector Prof. Nikolay Izov, the head of the Department of Athletics Assoc. Grigor Gutev and others. Olympic triple jump champion Teresa Marinova, who is a teacher at the school, was the host of the ceremony.
“Vasil Levski” NSA already has a modern athletics center, which includes the indoor athletics track, an auxiliary stadium, a throwing range and a track to it.
Minister Glushkov respected the efforts of the Academy management in improving the material base of the students by attending the opening of the renovation works of the dormitory block 70 in the university campus itself.
The Minister of Sports also visited the Olympic Education Center of the National Academy of Sciences, leaving his message.
