The National Council of Democratic Forces defends the decision of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan to boycott the extraordinary parliamentary election to be held on September 1 and calls on all political forces that care about national interests to make such a decision. This is stated in the statement of the National Council.

“The National Council considers that the election of September 1 is not an election, but a cheap spectacle whose outcome was predetermined and scripted according to the personal wishes of Ilham Aliyev, and considers his participation in it unnecessary and harmful from the point of view of national interests,” the document states .

The National Council believes that the electoral institution in Azerbaijan was “directly destroyed by the objective policy of Ilham Aliyev, and citizens have no interest or trust in the election.”

“This is also where the indifferent attitude of the people towards the election on September 1 originates. There are already 3 weeks left of the announced election campaign period, but no election atmosphere is felt in the country. The sad thing is that Ilham Aliyev’s government wants it to be just that. Azerbaijani authorities are going to this election with 300 former political prisoners, blocking free media, suppressing civil society and political opposition. The electoral commissions are under the full control of the authorities, all the opportunities for fraud are available to the local and central electoral commissions. Civil society, the opposition and independent organizations have no opportunity to control the voting and counting of votes. The unofficial ban on rallies and gatherings remains in place,” the document says.

It should be noted that 22 political parties have already declared that they will participate in the parliamentary elections on September 1 with their candidates. The opposition Musavat Party announced the names of its candidates from 34 constituencies, the REAL Party from 13 constituencies.
