The Central Cybercrime Unit of the National Police has detected a malware distribution campaign supplanting the Body, informs Europa Press.

On this occasion, the way to operate is through an email in which citizens are summoned to appear at the Complaints Office for alleged “aggravated robbery charges.”

A link appears in the email with the text ‘APP Citación Electrónico’ or ‘www.policia.es’. Clicking on them takes you to a page to download a compressed ‘.zip’ file containing the malicious software that infects the victim’s computer.

Do not open links or download files of dubious origin, always have the operating system and antivirus updated, as well as make independent backup copies on a regular basis, are some of the tips to avoid being victims of this fraudhas advised the National Police.

As explained by the Corps, the indications that lead to suspicion of the falsity of the email are that the sender’s domain bears no relation to that of the National Police, that the content presents spelling and writing errors, which could be an indication of its lack of veracity; or that when you put the mouse cursor over the link, the URL to which it will redirect us appears at the bottom, being in this case very different from that of the National Police.
