The Gal Ratna and Arjuna awards are given annually to the Indian sportsperson who wins medals in international competitions, the Dronacharya Award to the best coaches and the Dayan Chand Award to the lifetime achievement.
The Union Sports Ministry recently announced the list of sportsmen and women who have been shortlisted for this year’s National Sports Awards.
Tamil Nadu table tennis player Sarath Kamal has been selected for Gal Ratna Award. Similarly, 25 people including chess player Pragnananda from Tamil Nadu, shooter Ilavenil and differently abled badminton player Gerlin Anika were selected for the Arjuna Award.
The National Sports Awards ceremony including Khel Ratna and Arjuna will be held today at 4 pm at the President’s House in Delhi. President Drarubathi Murmu attends the function and honors the players by giving awards.
