Nikolay Ivanov, the head of the national teams in BV Volleyball, spoke to the under-20 women’s team three days before the start of the European Championship. Our group will be played in the “Hristo Botev” hall in the capital, and the other is in the Irish capital, Dublin.

“The meeting was impromptu,” Ivanov said. – I want to leave them calm and concentrated afterwards. I told them to be calm, use their time rationally and conserve energy. The tournament is long and anything can happen. Even if things don’t go well for us, that shouldn’t discourage us. You need perseverance and patience when there are difficulties. The team did a good preparation, they participated in the Balkaniad, they already played one control in Sofia. They have to go in with a mood. The girls will be the second team this summer to participate in a European championship as a host. I gave the example of men under 18.

We had high expectations there, but the tension may have crushed them. It is important that the girls channel the tension and realize the expectations. I expect our audience to help. The girls are older in age and experience. Most of them play in the women’s teams in our league, and they are of maiden age. Some have had matches in the Champions League, some in the women’s national team. Unlike the guys here, I see a bit more experience.”

Ivanov, I hope that through the European Championship, the team will secure its season for 2025. “We have to qualify to sixth place – said the director. – This means qualifying for the world championship. I want us to get into the final four and reach the fight for the medals.”
