The Nautical Jazz Festival honors three great musicians

Plaça de les Palmeres in Empuriabrava will be, for the sixth consecutive year, the stage for the Nautic Jazz Festival, which will be held during the next three Thursdays of the month: today, the 18th and the 25th. As always, the festival takes advantage to honor great jazz figures and, this year, Ray Charles, Django Reinhardt and Paquito D’Rivera stand out.

After two years of pandemic, the Upper Emporda city is recovering the original format of the festival. Today, the Cameroonian settled in France, Emmanuel Pi Djob, accompanied by a group of local collaborators, will be in charge of kicking off the sixth edition of the Festival with the tribute concert to Ray Charles, ” Ray and Me”. The septet will fill the stage with energy with such well-known Charles tracks as I got a Woman, What did I say? or Hard times.

Thursday August 18, the second concert will take place, in this case, of “jazz manouche” or “gypsy swing”, a style born in the thirties by the guitarist Django Reinhardt, with the influence of American jazz and the complicity of the violinist Stéphane grape The Mallorcan trio Biel Ballester, our most prestigious representative of the manouche jazz style and guitarist, will share the stage with the English guitarist Robin Nolan and Carrie Lewis.

Finally, on Thursday August 25, Paquito D’rivera tribute day, the SAP (South American Project), a septet led by Argentinian trumpeter Guillermo Callieri will perform Latin Jazz to remember the Cuban musician.

All the concerts of the festival will take place from 10 pm with free admission.
