The negative discourse about Tnuva and Unilever broke records on social networks

by time news

How angry are people on social media about the wave of price increases for food products in supermarkets? At the Cyabra company, which deals with the identification and analysis of the reliability of information and discourse on networks, they analyzed the posts and tweets on the subject from October 15 to November 27 – and discovered an angry picture.

The first brand tested is Tnuva, and it was found that about 1,600 profiles distributed about 2,400 posts on Facebook and Twitter. On November 14, the day the price increases were announced, there was a 380% increase in the conversation surrounding the company. 90% of the content that contained the word “Tnuva” was negative. 62% of the posts used expressions that included the word “boycott” in its various inflections, and those posts reached about 70 thousand profiles on Twitter and Facebook on the day of the announcement, and about 285 thousand profiles throughout the test.

November 14th was the peak of the negative yield on Tnuva, and in the following days there was a decrease, but on November 22nd – the day the price increase came into effect – a 2,114% increase was recorded in the bush. The post with the highest number of shares called for a boycott of the company. From this Syabra concludes that the number of Israelis who take part in the discourse about the boycott on social networks is increasing, and many of them publish content related to it as the days go by.

Another large company that is in the spotlight is Unilever, which, following its announcement of price increases, started a wave of online protests led by the “Ha-Hasuv” program. Since October 15, about 1,200 profiles have distributed more than 1,600 posts about the company on Facebook and Twitter, with most of the discourse being negative, including calls to boycott the company. The posts of the “pipe” reached more than 905 thousand profiles.

From the analysis of the conversation by day, it was found that the significant peak was registered on November 7, following a call to stop buying Unilever’s Thelma cornflakes. After this date, the discourse decreased significantly, and in Siabra they say that after the publication of many articles in which the damage to the company’s sales was reported, many profiles stopped taking part in the discourse, probably out of a feeling that they had achieved their goal.
