Agreement Reached Between Government and Jamaat-e-Islami
An agreement has been reached between the Pakistani government and Jamaat-e-Islami, ending their recent sit-in. The agreement addresses several key issues raised by the religious political party.
Naib Amir Jamaat-e-Islami Liaquat Baloch stated that the workers have achieved a new milestone through their sit-in, which began on July 26th. He highlighted the importance of resolving the issue of IPPs (Imported Petroleum Products) for the economy. After four rounds of negotiations in Rawalpindi, the government has established a task force with the authority to thoroughly review IPP agreements. The report is expected to be submitted to the Prime Minister in a month.
The agreement also includes measures to alleviate the burden on the salaried class and businessmen. Tax on the salaried class will be reduced, electricity bills will be reduced, and a committee will be formed to address the problems faced by traders.
Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi confirmed that electricity prices will definitely decrease, expressing his appreciation for Jamaat-e-Islami’s role in achieving the agreement. Federal Minister of Information Atta Tarar echoed this sentiment, stating that the broken relationship with Jamaat-e-Islami has been restored.
The agreement comes amidst ongoing tensions between the government and Jamaat-e-Islami, but both sides expressed their commitment to continued dialogue and collaboration.
