The reasons are unknown at this time. A computer outage affected the operation of a regional airport and many public services, including those of the coast guard and military police, in the Netherlands on Thursday.
The planes are grounded at Eindhoven airport, in the southeast of the country, which serves around thirty international destinations. “Due to a network disruption, air traffic is not possible at Eindhoven Airport. We do not yet know when the situation will be resolved,” the airport’s website indicated.
Appointments for anti-Covid vaccination are not possible
The country’s main airport, Schiphol, near Amsterdam, which is one of the main airports in Europe, appears to be operating normally. But the exit also appears to affect many other public services in the Netherlands.
The coast guard announced in a press release that it was “unreachable” due to the outage, both by telephone and radio, and advised people calling for an emergency to dial 112.
The contact center of the Dutch military police was also unreachable, authorities said. It is also not possible to make an appointment to be vaccinated against Covid-19.
Last month, airlines, banks and media companies around the world were thrown into chaos by one of the largest computer outages in recent years, caused by an antivirus system update.
