Helping entrepreneurs take their business forward and create jobs. This is the goal of Netmentoraan association non-profit which wants to increase the creation of business fabric everywhere and which has now arrived in Girona. The platform gives specialized advice for two years and for free to those people who decide to take a company forward. In addition, they offer access to relevant events and a portfolio of contacts. All together to support the entrepreneur who, at the same time, makes a commitment to help once his company has been consolidated. At the moment, they are present in ten countries since their foundation in France 37 years and they want to keep growing a Catalonia.
The president of Netmentora, Christian Roviraexplains that they detected that Girona was a demarcation where there was a need to implement. “We have partners who conveyed the possibility to us, as in Girona an initiative like this does not exist and it would be compatible with everything that is being developed in terms of entrepreneurship”, he remarked. In addition, Rovira has pointed out that in the awards ‘Young entrepreneurs of Catalonia’ which was held last month, the three awards went to Girona companies. “We believe that it can be consolidated and can help many entrepreneurs to successfully carry out their business idea”he remarked.
A success that is also highlighted by the director of Netmentora in Catalonia, Alejandro Porras. In particular, he points out that the 73% of the companies that advise through Netmentora remain. The criteria for being able to opt for the association’s services are marked by different aspects. The director explains that it has to do with the product they bring to the market and that it is preferable that they already have a portfolio of clients. They also ask that it generate an impact on the territory and that the entrepreneur takes an “active” role in the company. In addition, it must have financing for 1 year or recurring sales.
“What we do is that all experienced entrepreneurs and managers, accompany the entrepreneurs for two years in all those challenges that they have and through which they will have already gone through,” specifies Porras. Besides, they are also done talks, meetings i working groups in order to be able to provide facilities and contacts to the entrepreneurs themselves.
A return to society
All the services it offers Netmentora they are free, but the person who received the help must commit to doing the same after the two years have passed and they become a member. “All the entrepreneurs we help, then have this social commitment to be able to give back everything they have received. This is the spirit of Netmentora”, remarks Porras.
In fact, the financing of the entity comes, mainly, from the fees contributed by the members. Fees that always vary depending on the company. “If we are talking about a large company it will pay more than a small or medium one”concrete.
A good associative fabric
The reason for landing in Girona is the “good business fabric and the amount of ‘start ups’ in the demarcation”. In this sense, the businessman Narcís Xifra who stands out is “a great opportunity and strong recognition” that Netmentora bet on Girona.
“A lot of small businesses that came up ended up going to Barcelona and this should help them stay in the territory. We have talent and we need to take advantage of it and root it here,” emphasizes Xifra.
37 years
Netmentora was born in France – where it is fully established – in 1986 but is present in a dozen countries. He did it with industrialist André Mulliez to bet on job creation after the 1983 crisis, which led many companies to make layoffs. Among the countries where it has a presence, there are Belgium, Italy, Portugal, Chile or Tunisia. A Madrid i Barcelona, it “landed” there in 2016 and 2012respectively.
It is a non-profit European network that supports emerging companies and aims to support entrepreneurs who promote social impact projects. Despite its international scope, its commitment also has one territorial side to generate wealth and work in the different points where it is implemented.
To do it, they accompany projects that have special characteristics such as companies with the potential to create jobs; of recent creation with a product on the market and with funding necessary for one year of the life of the activity, among others. As long as they are part of the network, they will also be accompanied in the business problems they encounter along the way.
