Reverend Augustus Nicodemus Lopes is launching a new book, Confessions of a Preacher, a work that summarizes his journey as a minister of the Gospel over more than 40 years.

The release by the publisher Mundo Cristiano takes place this Monday, May 15, and has the purpose of sharing advice for young preachers and reflections for experienced ones.

The publication of the book describes it as a work that addresses the veteran pastor’s personal issues, but also confessional themes and sensitive guidelines present in the midst of the evangelical church, such as divorce, flattery, affective-sexual advances, deviant children, politics, fame and social media.

“O preacher needs to be wise, for example, to avoid quoting or mentioning controversial names in times of political crisis. Politicians can speak truths, but their name is usually associated with certain agendas that divide even the churches”, says an excerpt from the book.

Pastor of the Presbyterian Church of Brazil, Augustus Nicodemus Lopes currently serves at the First Presbyterian Church of Recife. Married to Minka Schalkwijk, the pastor is the father of Hendrika, Samuel, David and Anna.

Writer and professor, he holds a bachelor’s degree in theology from the North Presbyterian Seminary, in Recife, a master’s degree in New Testament from the Christian University of Potchefstroom, in South Africa, and a doctorate in Hermeneutics and Biblical Studies and a postdoctoral degree in New Testament from the Theological Seminary of Westminster (USA), with further studies at the Reformed University of Kampen (Netherlands).

Currently, Augustus Nicodemus serves as an auxiliary pastor at the First Presbyterian Church of Recife (PE) and also runs a YouTube channel where he publishes his expository sermons in thematic series.
