Designing a car from a new point of view, specifically to address sustainability, was a challenge that Gilles Vidal and his team began to take over as soon as the sketches began. His goal of creating a car that was as sustainable as it was surprising was the trigger for his creativity and guided them toward some of his visual options, and not the other way around. This design anticipates societal trends and addresses them in an innovative way.
A tangible example is the aerodynamics of the 100% electric Scenic E-Tech: it is much more than a technical feature, as it adds expression to the exterior design while reducing energy consumption and extending the car’s range.
«Eco-design is not an afterthought in the conception process: it is the essential starting point. Design is intrinsically associated with the creation of a sustainable vehicle. Every line, every curve, every detail is designed to integrate sustainability into the car from the beginning of the creative process,” he explains. What’s more, for Vidal, true success lies in awakening ecological emotions in a car. Creating practical vehicles that appeal to the driver’s emotions while promoting sustainability is the holy grail of this creative endeavor. Design is a vital ally and accelerator in this quest to build cutting-edge vehicles that address climate issues, manage resources responsibly, and show consideration for the people who use them.
In other words, the future of automobile design will experience a profound change in the way mobility is perceived and understood. Thus, the 100% electric Scenic E-Tech represents this new approach and uses various recycled materials, including several from closed circuits (recycled materials made from the same used material). At the end of its useful life, most of the vehicle will be recyclable in authorized centers. Furthermore, it is produced in a complete, more sustainable and responsible ecosystem, assembled close to its end markets. In this way, sustainability becomes an instrument that facilitates freer, more fun and pleasant mobility.
