The Constitution Committee yesterday (Sunday) approved the outline for entry and exit from Israel following the OmriCron variant and it came into force.

According to the outline, Israelis returning from 50 countries defined as red will perform a PCR test upon landing in Israel, after which they will be transferred to solitary confinement in the Corona Hotel until an answer is received. After receiving a negative answer, they will be transferred for further home isolation and on the seventh day they will perform another PCR test. Subject to a negative answer on the second test, they will be released from solitary confinement. Those who come out positive on the test will stay in the motel until a recovery certificate is received.

At present, there are only two Corona hotels, one in Tel Aviv and one in Jerusalem, due to the relatively low number of returnees from these countries.

Those entering Israel from South Africa, Botswana, Malawi and Ethiopia have been subject to the obligation of isolation in hotels since Friday and the committee has brought forward the obligation to enter from the other 46 countries to 18:00 tonight (instead of midnight).

These 50 countries have been banned from leaving Israel: South Africa: Angola, Aswatini, Botswana, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Tosu, Mozambique, Malawi, Namibia, Reunion.

Central Africa: Democratic Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Sao Tome and Principe, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Republic of Congo.

In addition, the government yesterday approved the use of cellular locators operated by the General Security Service (GSS) to locate contacts of verified “Omicron” strains.

This decision will be valid until next Thursday, at midnight (00:00), in emergency regulations, at the same time as advancing the legislative process on the subject and the necessity will be reviewed at all times.

It should be emphasized that the use is limited only to the verified in the new strain, and it is not a broad and sweeping use for all verified, as was done in the previous waves of illness. Also, the General Security Service (GSS) will not deal with the enforcement of isolation rules.

The mass Hanukkah events will meanwhile be held as usual as planned in advance and in accordance with the provisions of the aggravated green sign, but only when events with 50 people indoors also require a green sign, instead of a hundred people so far.
