This coming Wednesday, the statue built in honor of the Olympic champion in artistic gymnastics, Linoy Ashram, will be unveiled. The sculpture will be placed at the Wingate Institute, right in the special tent hall set up for the artistic gymnast ahead of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, where she won the gold medal for the Israeli industry.

Behind the initiative is the sculptor, Rachel Weitzer, Who told ONE: “I sculpted this statue in the image of Linoy two years before she won the Olympic medal. I love dance and dance moves, and as soon as she won I looked at him and suddenly I said ‘Yoo this is really Linoy Ashram’. To me, that’s really her movement with the film. I do a lot of gymnastics sculptures, but I felt that this sculpture should be cast in aluminum and given to her personally after winning the medal. I was very excited when she won. “

According to her, she turned to the gymnastics association and asked to bring it as a tribute to Linoy. “Linoy decided she wanted him to be located inside the big tent, where she trained and lived for a year and a half continuously before leaving for Tokyo, in order to send a message to the young gymnasts that they too could succeed and go far. For this purpose, it was decided that the statue would eventually be slightly smaller and 1.10 meters high, ”she added.

Although the sculpture does not bear Ashram’s facial features, it was inspired by her. Following Ashram’s request to be placed inside the tent where she trained, the gymnastics association approached the Wingate Institute to hold a ceremony and bring the statue inside. The institute, which has served as a home for Israeli gymnasts in recent years, agreed.

The institute clarified that this is a sculpture in honor of Ashram’s victory, which is designed as an artistic gymnast. The union asked to be placed in the institute and it will indeed be placed next to the tent. The gymnastics association claimed that no special ceremony would be held but a limited event. CEO of the Wingate Institute, Shai Avrahami, Said: “The Wingate Institute is proud and congratulates the gymnasts Artium Dolgofiat and Linoy Ashram who trained for the Tokyo Olympics at the Wingate Institute, which has become the home of the Gymnastics Association.”
