Two years after the presidential elections that gave the coup leader the winner Pedro Castillotoday imprisoned for his coup attempt, before Keiko Fujimoriboth parties seem to have forgotten the violent attacks between them during the electoral campaign and have joined forces to achieve a list that has finally been the winner to integrate the board of directors of the Peruvian Congress.

The list headed by Alejandro Sotoof the party Alliance for Progressobtained 77 votes in favor and 39 against, in addition to 4 blank and 8 null, and leads the fujimorista Hernando Guerra Garcia as First Vice President, Waldemar Cerronfrom Peru Libre and brother of Vladimir Cerronas second vice president, and Rosselli Amuruzof the right-wing party Avanza País, in the third vice presidency.

In his speech, Soto pointed out that he has “an arduous task ahead of him. In the last year, our country has gone through a political crisis and moments of social upheaval with threats to the institutional framework and the democratic political system. Democracy implies respect to minorities, but also demands respect for the rights of others and the preservation of peace and tranquility”.

According to media outlets such as El Foco, the new president of Congress has 55 open tax investigations, from “fraud and common misappropriation” to “documentary forgery, illicit enrichment, embezzlement and abuse of authority.” However, the most striking complaint is the one that follows the First Superior Criminal Prosecutor of Cusco for “participation in an armed group directed by a foreigner to act in national territory.”

In addition, Soto does not seem to have a good relationship with the media since, according to the newspaper Peru 21 on June 19, he has filed up to 14 complaints against journalists from Cusco.
