Her resignation was involved in numerous unknowns, where the Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, gave her great praise, assuring that, although her departure was “unfair but necessary,” she was the best director in the 178-year history of the Armed Institute.

Defense Minister, Margarita Robles on this occasion did attend the inaugurationn something that did not happen with that of María Gámez who, despite her presence being announced at the time and who delegated to the former Chief of Defense Staff (JEMAD), General Miguel Ángel Villarroya. However, both Robles and Grande-Marlaska have presided over the event today, as is usual in these cases.

During her speech, the general director of the Civil Guard, Mercedes González, guaranteed that it will be “inflexible” against those who take advantage from within the Corps and tarnish its image, and has advanced that, although the internal control mechanisms work, it will improve them. “Nothing and no one, no political strategy and no particular abuse can stain the immense cleanliness of the Civil Guard,” González has stressed in reference to the “barracks”, “Mediator” and “Grapa” cases that dot the Corps. Cases to which Grande-Marlaska has also referred, who has described as “irresponsible ethical behavior of a very small group of civil guards who damage the Corps”, while warning that these “reprehensible” actions will not go unpunished. And it is that, the head of the Interior remained in what he has defended in recent days, disassociating the “barracks case” from the Institution, and even from the “Tito Berni” plot.

The new director claimed the “honesty and honesty” of her predecessor in office, María Gámez, above “any attack or discredit”, and whose line of work she has promised to continue. She stressed that “His leadership and command style transformed the Civil Guard into a modern and advanced institution,” Marlaska also acknowledged about Gámez, who was not present at the event.

Grande-Marlaska stressed that the Civil Guard is the first to avoid disloyalties so that the catalog of virtues, principles and values ​​that are included in the Primer of the Armed Institute are not dirty. “Compliance with these rules is essential” for the Benemérita to continue to be recognized and respected. In addition, he stressed that it is the Corps itself that is interested in “correcting conduct that damages the credit of the Corps.”

Likewise, he asked the civil guard associations to collaborate with the new general director with the aim of ensuring that the Civil Guard is a “project for the future without going back” because the Armed Institute “will not take a step back” in the mission of protect society.
