Newly elected Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said today that Tehran will continue to pursue an anti-Israel policy, Reuters reported.

Pezeshkian said the resistance movements in the region will not allow Israel’s “criminal policy” towards the Palestinians to continue.

“The Islamic Republic has always supported the resistance of the people in the region against the illegitimate Zionist regime,” Pezeshkian said in a message to the leader of the Lebanese Shiite movement Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah, BTA reported.

According to Reuters, this statement by the newly elected president shows that the new Iranian government will not change Tehran’s policy in the region.

Pezeshkian defeated conservative Said Jalili in last week’s presidential runoff.

“I am confident that the resistance movements in the region will not allow this regime to continue with its warlike and criminal policy towards the oppressed people of Palestine and other countries in the region,” Pezeshkian was quoted as saying by Iranian media.

The Shiite group Hezbollah and the Palestinian Sunni movement Hamas are among the Iranian-backed factions in the region known collectively as the Axis of Resistance, Reuters noted.

Israel has not yet commented on Pezeshkian’s remarks.
