The Vitoria tram has started on Tuesday, April 11, to make its first trips to Salburua, with great acceptance among the users of this area, located on the outskirts of the city. The opening of the branch to Salburua provides the tram network of the Álava capital with five new stops -Santa Luzia, Iliada, Nikosia, La Unión and Salburua-, which will serve a young neighbourhood, with a current population of around 20,000 people and which Furthermore, it is growing.

The 2.5 kilometer extension will improve the connection of Salburua, Judimendi and Santa Lucía with the center and the northern area of ​​the capital, and will also facilitate access to the new bus station and the university area.

Stops less than five minutes away

With the branch to Salburua, 3,700 residents have a tram stop less than five minutes from their homes, and 18,300 less than ten minutes. Likewise, the start-up of the service to Salburua involves a reorganization of the headers and destinations, so that the trams run from Abetxuko to Unibertsitatea, and from Ibaiondo to Salburua, every fifteen minutes.

The arrival of the tram in this neighborhood has meant a total investment of close to 25 million euros, 65 percent of which has been financed by the Basque Government, while the remaining 35 percent has been contributed in equal parts by the City Council of Vitoria and the Provincial Council of Álava.
