WhatsApp continues to add features. The messaging application owned by Meta, which has more than 2 billion users globally, has announced the arrival of the voice chats to the large groups on the platform. This tool aims to function as a less annoying alternative to voice calls.

Those responsible for WhatsApp understand that there are some times when “people only need to talk to those chat members who are available, without losing the option to continue sending messages to those who are not.”

Voice chats are presented as an alternative to group calls, since they ring for each member of the group. Instead, new voice chats start with a window that appears in the group and you just have to tap on it to join. Therefore, the user experience will be much more comfortable for participants, who, if they do not want to join the conversation, will be able to continue posting without problems in the group.

As announced by the technology company in a statement, which has been shared with ABC, the function will arrive in the application in the coming weeks and, in principle, will be available for both iPhone and Android mobile users. Yes, yesIt will only be possible to use it in chats that have at least 33 members.

Call controls are also kept integrated, displayed at the top of the chat, meaning participants in a voice chat will be able to quickly unmute, hang up, or send a message without having to leave the conversation.

This type of chat is protected with end-to-end encryption, just as it prevents a third party outside the group from accessing the content of the communication, as occurs with calls and personal messages.
