This, which until recently was seen with good eyes, for being connected to the world at all times, is now being the subject of concern by technology companies.

“We will continue to create new ways to protect your messages and keep them as private and secure as face-to-face conversations,” said Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, in a statement announcing some news regarding WhatsApp.

One of them, and possibly the most relevant, is the possibility of leave a group without all members knowing. Until now, when you left a group of this tool, a notification appeared in the lower area that all users could see. With the new update, only the administrators will be aware of the new releases.

However, there are situations in which all the participants are administrators (although it is usually in the smallest groups) and it will be in these cases when everyone knows that the chat will eventually run.

But this is not the only innovation that affects the privacy of WhatsApp. Among its new features will be the possibility of deactivating the “online” status even if the application is being used.

Together with her, you can also block screenshots of those messages that can only be seen once, that is, that are programmed as a single display. The company has recognized that, at the moment, this functionality is in the testing phase and that they want to launch it shortly, but they have not advanced the specific date.

Viruses, the order of the day

Applications are bound to be constantly reinforced. Because every day a new threat arises. Cyber intelligence firm Cyble has uncovered new details about ‘Dracarys’a type of ‘spyware’ that affects Android devices and poses as applications to infect the ‘smartphones’ of its victims.

Meta, Facebook’s parent company, first spotted this malware a few months ago, when it was named and mentioned in its threat report for the second quarter of this year.

The company has explained in its report that the Bitter cybercriminal group integrated this ‘spyware’ in unofficial and illegitimate versions of applications such as YouTube, Signal, Telegram or WhatsApp, among other custom chat platforms.

As Meta has commented, once installed on them, Dracarys is capable of accessing the call log, contact list, files, text messages, geolocation and Device Informationas well as modify Android’s accessibility permissions and activate the microphone, install other ‘apps’ or take pictures with the camera.
