Burkina / Pregnant girl beaten to death by her father: the NGO “Voix de femmes” advocates education for family life
Ouagadougou, August 2, 2023 (AIB)-The NGO “Voix de femmes” called in a statement sent to the AIB on Wednesday, for family life education for the protection of children’s rights. This statement follows the case of the pregnant girl beaten to death by her father, reported by the newspaper Le Pays on July 18.
In a statement sent this Wednesday to the AIB, the NGO “Voix de femmes” claims to have learned “with great emotion” through the columns of the newspaper Le Pays dated July 18, 2023, the death of a young daughter beaten to death by her own father because of pregnancy.
The facts allegedly took place in “the village of Diarabakoko, commune of Banfora and the victim had just obtained his BEPC”, indicates the declaration signed by the president of the Board of Directors of the NGO “Voix de femmes”, Mariam Lamizana .
Mrs. Lamizana informs that it “results from the newspaper Le Pays that an investigation has been opened and several people have already been heard, including the father who will answer for the facts, the consequences of which are unimaginable for him and his family”.
According to her, it is obvious that the law remains insufficient to regulate such a practice which has deep roots in our societies.
She therefore recommends other actions “which must be combined with criminal laws and prevent the violation of girls’ rights in order to deconstruct social norms that are unfavorable to the rights of young girls”.
“This is why ‘Voix de Femmes’ would like to take this opportunity to appeal to sister civil society organizations to put family life education at the center of their program in order to help parents in the protection of the rights of children in general and girls in particular,” she said.
The President of the Board of Directors advocates the establishment of dialogue around issues relating to sexual and reproductive health.
Faced with this new tragedy which raises the question of gender equality in our country, “Voix de Femmes” “also challenges the public authorities on the need to intensify the fight against violence against girls and women. “.
Mariam Lamizana ends her statement by presenting on behalf of “Voix de femmes” her condolences to the bereaved family and wishes the victim’s soul to rest.
