This non-governmental organization supports the government of Benin in the implementation of programs to extend social protection to populations excluded from traditional mechanisms. Through its partner organisations, the Belgian NGO WSM works in 8 departments and 17 municipalities in the Republic of Benin. In his message, the continental coordinator of WSM-West Africa, Valère Pihoun-Koffi, evaluated the activities of the NGO in Benin. He informed that WSM provided financial support of 1,678,420,402 FCFA to Benin, between 2018-2023, to implement its program. “This made it possible, among other things, to contribute to the achievement of axes 4 and 5 of the 2nd pillar of the PAG and axes 6 and 7 of pillar 3. Likewise, axes 1, 3,5 and 8 of the SDGs were affected. These results are significant,” explained Valère Pihoun-Koffi.

The World Solidarity Fund (WSM) is an essential partner of the government in its efforts to promote the right to social protection and decent work. According to Franck Armel Afokou, “The renewal of its headquarters agreement was taken after a satisfactory evaluation of the NGO’s activities. Your actions contribute to the achievement of the development ambitions of the Government’s Action Programme,” said the Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The NGO, the Global Solidarity Fund, has been investing in Benin for many years through a wide range of services for disadvantaged populations, which consolidates its activities in the country. The facilities granted by the government through tax and customs exemptions will help it to strengthen its activities in favor of vulnerable groups. After the Belgian NGO WSM, the government also renewed the headquarters agreement of three other foreign NGOs. They are Emmaüs International, Direct Aid and Chaîne de l’Espoir. These organizations work to improve access to health care; access to drinking water; employability of young people; access to credits and better knowledge of rights and obligations.
