From September 1, 2024, applicants for the issuance of expensive drugs for chronic or rare diseases, issued with electronic protocols issued by specialist doctors and by specialized medical committees, as well as for the issuance of aids and medical devices, will be notified with a message on the phone or through the Viber online platform. This was said to journalists by Acting manager of the NHIF Prof. Momchil Mavrov.

There will be no attachments or links to the messages, no money will be required for anything when patients receive the messages, emphasized Prof. Mavrov in response to a question about possible fraud.

The message about drug protocols will be short and will contain information about the protocol number and its validity, said Ivaylo Stoychev, “Information Technologies” manager at “Information Service” JSC. Messages will be sent upon registration of a new protocol, when additional documents are needed, upon refusal, upon termination and upon expiration of the protocol.

Aids and medical device notifications will contain application number, date of application, new application, repair application, application approval, refusal, cancellation and expiration reminder of the application.

When a person finds that the message is not intended for them, they will be able to immediately report it to the NHIF.

When notified on the online platform, there will be a logo of the NHSOC, and the messages will be with the abbreviation “NHSOC”, so that citizens do not doubt the authenticity of the messages, Stoychev also said. According to him, initially the message will be sent via Viber, and if the patient does not receive the message, a message will be paid by phone, he added.
