Mark Zuckerberg is one of the most well-known faces in the world of technology. The father of Facebook, a tool created 18 years ago and which is currently in low hours due to the progressive aging of its users, is focused on the construction of the metaverse, that new virtual world in which the user can practically do the same thing in real life. However, this does not imply that the executive neglects the rest of the business areas. Not much less. Precisely, this has caused some of his employees to refer to him as ‘Sauron’s eyein reference to the great villain of the literary saga ‘The Lord of the rings‘.

This was stated by Zuckerberg himself recently in an interview on the podcast program Tim Ferris Showhighlighting that the employees use the nickname affectionately.

“Some of the people that I work with in the company, they say it fondly, but I think sometimes they refer to my care as the Eye of Sauron,” the executive explained.

Specifically, Zuckerberg pointed out during the conversation that he is unable to focus on a single task within the company and that, on the contrary, he tries to be aware of everything that happens inside. He stated, in this regard, that he has an “endless amount of energy.”

Although, in principle, the nickname is used with affection, it is surprising that the workers of Meta, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, use the name of a villain to refer to their boss. It should be remembered that Sauron is indeed the great antagonist of the series of books published by JRR Tolkien during the last century. In it, the character is represented by a large eye, located at the top of a tower, which is capable of observing practically everything that happens in Middle-earth, the fictional world in which the action takes place.

Considering the problems that the father of Facebook is currently facing, the nickname makes a lot of sense. As he works to build the metaverse, Zuckerberg is trying to deal with problems such as the loss of users on Facebook, the slowdown in the advertising business, the rise of TikTok or monopoly accusations coming from the US Federal Trade Commission.
