In a statement to the press at the opening of this edition at the National Museum of Oudayas Jewelry, in the presence of a host of eminent personalities from various backgrounds, the head of government indicated that “all the museums across the Kingdom are full of priceless treasures that are part of our heritage, which the public will be able to discover and learn more about their stories.”
Mr. Akhannouch noted, in this sense, that this initiative reflects the clear-sighted vision of HM King Mohammed VI aimed at restructuring museums and the cultural and artistic sector in general, at the same time saluting the organizers for the efforts made to make this event, which is held in 18 cities of the Kingdom, a success.
For her part, the Minister of Tourism, Crafts, Social and Solidarity Economy, Fatima Zahra Amor, said that “this second edition of the Night of Museums and Cultural Spaces shows the importance that Morocco has devoted to culture for several years.”
“From a tourism point of view, culture is an extremely important lever for the tourism sector because 60% of tourists visit the Kingdom for cultural purposes,” she said, noting that the tourism department has dedicated an entire sector to the cultural circuit “which we have started to deploy mainly in historic cities as well as in all places that have a history.”
Ms. Amor further welcomed the fact that more than 80 museums, galleries and cultural spaces will be open to the general public during this cultural event, calling in this context to continue efforts aimed at preserving Moroccan cultural heritage.
The President of the National Museums Foundation, Mehdi Qotbi, for his part, highlighted the important place and the great value that HM King Mohammed VI gives to culture, noting that “Morocco is a country that is full of a variety of cultures and has an exceptional wealth of heritage of which we must be proud as Moroccans”.
The Night of Museums and Cultural Spaces is a celebration of culture and also provides an opportunity for all citizens to access different cultural spaces as well as to discover and learn more about their heritage and culture, he stressed.
Organized by the National Museum Foundation, the Jardin Majorelle Foundation and the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication, under the High Patronage of HM King Mohammed VI, this event will see the participation this year of more than 80 museums, galleries and cultural spaces which will open their doors free of charge, from 6 p.m. to midnight, in 18 cities of the Kingdom including Oujda, Tetouan, Tangier, Assilah, Fez, Meknes, Rabat, Kenitra, Casablanca, Safi, Azilal, Marrakech, Essaouira, Agadir, Assa, Laâyoune, Dakhla and Aousserd.
This is a unique opportunity for visitors of all ages and backgrounds to travel through the exhibition rooms, discovering archaeological and ethnographic objects as well as artistic works.
