The Nothing Phone (1) arrives, a unique mobile

by time news

Nothing today presents its unique Phone (1), the company’s first smartphone and the gateway to its future connected and open ecosystem. It brings the innovative Glyph interface, a 50MP dual camera, the refined Nothing OS system, 120Hz OLED screen and custom-made Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G+ chipset, offering speed and a smooth experience starting at 469 euros. With a waiting list of more than 200,000 reservations and a bid that reached more than $3,000 USD for the first 100 silk-screened units, it is one of the most anticipated technological devices today.

“We designed Phone (1) to be a product that we would be proud to share with friends and family,” he says. Carl Pei, CEO and co-founder of Nothing. “This simple foundation helped us veer off an already beaten path, feel and go with our gut, and create an experience that will hopefully usher in change in a stagnant industry.”

new interface

Unlike anything seen before, the Glyph interface is a new way of communicating that helps reduce screen time. The different light patterns, made up of 900 LEDs, indicate who is calling, indicates the notifications, and the battery status among others. The user will be able to match the different ringtones together with the Glyph patterns to their contacts, in order to differentiate them.

The FliptoGlyph function, which is activated by placing the Phone (1) with the Glyph interface facing up, will automatically activate the silent mode and only turn on the lights to indicate when there are notifications.

A spectacular design

Nothing Phone (1) has a transparent back, made up of more than 400 components. Its aluminum frame 100% recycled makes the phone light and strong, while more than 50% of the phone’s plastic components are made from recycled or bio-based materials, an industry-leading percentage.

Its double-sided Gorilla Glass 5 provides toughness, while advanced vibration motors make tactile feedback seem lifelike. Symmetrical bezels and an aluminum frame add elegance, lightness and durability.

Operating system with Nothing OS

Nothing OS offers pure Android. No bloatware, just speed and a smooth user experience. The ‘hardware and software’ speak a single language visual, con widgetsfonts, sounds and custom wallpapers, all designed ‘in-house’.

Without separate applications, the user can control the devices of other brands from the quick configuration of the equipment, and it will be connected in a simple way. The power of the Phone (1) is focused where it is needed, thanks to its intelligent ‘software’ that learns what applications are the user’s favorites. The most used apps will load super fast, while the rest freeze to save battery life.

A curious note is that the user will be able to see their NFT collection and keep track of the minimum prices directly from the Phone’s home screen (1) through the NFT Gallery.

camera system

The developer team says it’s time to forget that having more cameras means better quality photos and videos. The integrated dual camera has two advanced sensors of 50MP, with a main powered by the flagship Sony IMX766. The ƒ/1.8 aperture, dual image stabilization and 10-bit color video give you what you need to capture stable, realistic and detailed content. Smart features like night mode and scene detection adapt for proper settings and results.

The user will be able to activate the Glyph interface to illuminate subjects in the foreground with a soft light. It’s like having a portable ring light, without the harshness of the ‘flash’.

display features

A billion colors. All tones are faithfully seen on a 6.55″ OLED screen and HDR10+. Color is rich and contrast is deep, in all types of scenes. An adaptive refresh rate of 120Hz ensures optimal response, while offers energy efficiency.

Processor

Behind the remarkable speed of Phone (1) is the renowned chipset Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G+, co-engineered for Nothing to include wireless and reverse charging. It offers outstanding graphics and advanced camera features, accelerated by 5G. Game mode combines sound and graphics while minimizing notifications for an immersive experience.

It has fast charging and wireless charging so the user can reach 18 hours of use with each charge and two days in stand by. Reaches 50% battery in 30 minutes of charging. Reverse-charged accessories such as Nothing Ears (1) will charge at 5W. The wireless charging coil will light up thanks to the Glyph interface to indicate that wireless or reverse charging is taking place.

Availability and prices

The Phone (1) is available in black and white, with three versions. 8GB/128GB (black only) per 469 euros; 8GB/256GB for 499 euros, and 12GB/256GB for 549 euros.
