The nuclear agreement is in doubt: the European powers warn of the Iranian step

by time news

The European powers have a clear message: France, Great Britain and Germany, partners in the nuclear agreement since 2015, warn against Iran’s intentions and said that Tehran’s reaction casts serious doubt on its intention to return to the agreement and that it is in violation of its international obligations.

The powers issued the announcement after Iran’s demand from the United Nations to close an inspection of uranium particles found at three sites. According to the countries, this could serve as a significant risk to the talks. “This demand raises serious doubts about Iran’s intentions and commitment to a successful outcome on the issue,” the three countries said today in a joint statement , “This position contradicts its legal obligations – and endangers the chances of restoring the nuclear agreement.”

The International Atomic Energy Agency, IAEA, presented alarming data this week regarding Iran’s approach to a nuclear bomb. According to the report, issued by the agency on Wednesday, Iran continues to increase and enrich its uranium stockpile. The report states that they have about 55 kg of uranium with an enrichment level of 60%, known as the amount sufficient to produce a nuclear bomb.

As a reminder, in the first report for 2022 of the International Atomic Energy Agency regarding Iran’s nuclear program, it was stated that the stockpile of uranium enriched to the level of 60% that Tehran possesses increased by an additional 9.9 kilograms in the last quarter, and now stands at 43.1 kilograms. This means that Iran is quite close to the amount of material in which one nuclear bomb can be developed.
