Former Israeli Prime Minister, Ehud Barak, has caused controversy with a tweet that violates the nuclear ambiguity that Israel has maintained for many years. In the tweet, Barak expresses his concern that a messianic dictatorship with nuclear weapons might arise in the Middle East if a coup d’état in Israel succeeds. He claims that conversations between Israelis and political parties in the West reveal deep concerns about the possibility of such an outcome. Finance Minister, Bezalel Smotrich, responded by accusing Barak of being delusional and irresponsible and claimed that he and other left-wing activists have been travelling and spreading an abominable lie. Smotrich pledged that Israel would continue to prosper and develop despite these attempts to damage its foreign relations and economy.
