In July – September of this year, 24,400 telephone numbers were blocked in Russia on the initiative of the Bank of Russia, which were used by fraudsters to steal money from citizens, follows from the materials of the Central Bank. For the same period in 2020, operators at the request of the regulator blocked 10,700 numbers, in 2019 – 5,200.
The number of fraudulent city phone numbers detected in the third quarter of this year increased by 150.1% to 19,100 compared to the same period last year, and mobile phone numbers – by almost 79.9% to over 5000. Fraudulent hotline numbers 8800 221 were identified (12.3% less).
Also, during the reporting period, at the request of the Central Bank, 1900 Internet resources were blocked through which fraudsters carried out illegal activities (1600 in the third quarter of 2020). More than 1,500 of them are sites of illegal financial organizations or Internet resources that are disguised as sites of real financial organizations.
According to the Central Bank’s calculations, fraudsters stole 3.2 billion rubles from clients of Russian banks. in the III quarter of 2021, which is 18% more than was recorded in the same period last year. In total, in July – September 2021, cybercriminals performed 256 198 transactions without the consent of consumers against 182 954 in the third quarter of last year. At the same time, the Central Bank noted a decrease in the share of thefts carried out using the method of social engineering, from 63.8 to 41%.
