The French Government today raised the death toll of French nationals to 39 due to the terrorist attacks by the armed wing of the Islamist group Hamas against Israel.
The number of missing French people is 9 and it is confirmed that “some of them are Hamas hostages,” as indicated today by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement.
The Government sent condolences to the relatives of the deceased and stressed that the Executive is working to achieve the release of those kidnapped.
Likewise, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs detailed that this Friday about forty French citizens with their families were evacuated from the Gaza Strip and are safe in Egypt. Paris will continue working, however, to support the departure of French nationals who are still there and wish to leave that territory.
On the other hand, President Emmanuel Macron announced this Friday the holding of an international humanitarian conference to help the civilian population of Gaza in the context of the blockade and the Israeli military offensive.
The event will take place on the morning of November 9 in Paris and will mobilize the main actors involved in the humanitarian response, from NGOs to States, including international organizations.
As detailed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs today in a statement, it will have three focuses: actions in favor of respect for international law, the protection of civilians and humanitarian workers; the international response in basic sectors (such as health, water or energy) and the call to support organizations active on the ground.
Each invited delegation will be able “present initiatives” of aid to the Palestinian population on the basis of “needs identified” by the United Nations.
