The number of homeless people and beggars on the streets of Paris is increasing every day, Day.Az reports with reference to TASS.

Cardboard beds and homemade tents can be seen on the main tourist streets of Paris, including the Champs Elysees. Homeless people can also be seen in the immediate vicinity of the Olympic venues. Security is always increased near the arenas where the competitions are held, but the gendarmes and soldiers of the National Guard pay no attention to the homeless.

Over the past year, the French authorities have been evicting homeless people living on the streets outside of Paris en masse. According to the initiative group Revers de la médaille (The Other Side of the Coin), 12,500 people were sent from Paris to the regions from May 1, 2023 to April 1, 2024, while in June and July, police continued to evict residents of tent cities under bridges and “squats”. People were taken far outside of Paris, including to Orleans and Strasbourg, and given a place to live for a certain period of time, after which they again ended up on the streets.
