Infections due to dengue in Ecuador are increasing. In hospitals and health centers in the country, it is common to see patients with dengue symptoms or with this positive viral infection, filling the emergency rooms to undergo the respective sample taking to identify the type of dengue that they unfortunately acquired.
There are 17,043 infections reported according to figures from the Ministry of Public Health (MSP) until April 1, 2024. The Ministry indicates that cases will continue to increase due to the constant climate changes registered, especially on the country’s coast. Unfortunately, dengue leaves 18 deaths so far in 2024.
Manabí is the province with the highest number of people with dengue, followed by Los Ríos and Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas. Monitoring is carried out by the Integrated Epidemiological Surveillance System and the Integrated Surveillance System for COVID and other respiratory viruses of the Ministry of Public Health.
The Ministry of Public Health trains health personnel to strengthen the identification and management of dengue cases. It also intervenes in the elimination of mosquito breeding sites.
The population is recommended to avoid the accumulation of stagnant water, a place in which the Aedes Aegypti mosquito reproduces. Eliminate mosquito breeding sites that tend to remain in tires, bottles and pots. Use mosquito repellent and clothing that covers most of the body./La Hora
