The airport informs that almost 569,000 passengers used direct flights in August, which is 8% more than in August last year.
This year, 41,500 flights were handled at Riga Airport in eight months. In August, Riga Airport served more than 6,000 flights, including 5,451 passenger aircraft, while the rest were air cargo, business, military and other flights.
In August 2024, 663 tons of air cargo were handled at the airport, almost half of which were transported by cargo flights, and slightly more than half by passenger or other flights. In August, the first cargo flight between Riga and Uzbekistan was performed by the Uzbek air cargo carrier “Fly Khiva”.
“In general, there is a gradual growth trend in the aviation cargo segment,” the airport representatives note.
The most popular flight routes from Riga in August were Manchester, Budapest and Malaga, but the average flight occupancy increased to 87%.
It has already been reported that in 2023 Riga Airport served a total of 6.631 million passengers, which is 23.2% more than the year before, when 5.381 million passengers were served, but 15% less than in 2019, when 7.798 million were served at the airport passenger.
