On the other hand, the number of flights in the corresponding period increased by 8.6% – up to 22,060.

“airBaltic” representatives inform that the airline transported 488,200 passengers in June 2024, which is an increase of 7%, and made 4,400 flights, which is 5% more than in June 2023.

“airBaltic” President and CEO Martins Gauss states that the airline continues to observe an increase in the number of transported passengers, and in the coming months, “airBaltic” plans to continue expanding the network by starting new “pop-up” flights and regular flights, continuing operations from the airline’s base in Gran Canaria and starting direct winter season flights to new destinations.

Last June, airBaltic carried 454,500 passengers and operated 4,200 flights.

At the same time, in the first half of 2024, the airline transported 0.7% fewer passengers than before the pandemic – in the months of the first half of 2019, when “airBaltic” transported approximately 2.229 million passengers, according to the calculations of the LETA agency.

Earlier, Gauss told the LETA agency that this year the airline will exceed the figures of 2019, predicting that “airBaltic” will transport more than five million passengers.

Gauss previously also mentioned that both the pandemic and the war have changed the way airBaltic operates as a company. “Therefore, it would not be fair to say that we have overcome the effects of the war, because if we look at the strategic position of “airBaltic” as a provider of connections between the West and the East, then we no longer provide connections either with Russia, or with Belarus, or with Ukraine. Therefore we have offset the impact of the war, but the impact is still there and has not gone away,” he said.

LETA already announced that “airBaltic” transported 4.536 million passengers last year, which is 35.7% more than in 2022, and made 44,100 flights, which is 18.3% more than the year before.

It is also reported that the audited turnover of “airBaltic” was 664.289 million euros last year, which is 33.2% more than in 2022, and the company made a profit of 33.852 million euros, as opposed to losses a year earlier.

The Latvian state owns 97.97% of “airBaltic” shares, while “Aircraft Leasing 1” owned by financial investor, Danish businessman Lars Tūsen – 2.03%.
