The number of people in need of help is increasing again significantly

by time news

The employees of the Tafel call on the people in Steinfurt, Horstmar, Laer and Altenberge to support the 13th Advent campaign of this joint project of the churches, the Diakonisches Werk and Caritas. The facility accepts food donations for people in need both on October 21 (Friday) from 4 to 6.30 p.m. and on October 22 (Saturday) from 9 a.m. to 4.30 p.m.

The employees will position themselves clearly visible in front of the shopping centers in their cities and communities. There are a total of 27 collection points in the catchment area of the Steinfurter Tafel. The donations are first sorted by the Steinfurt fire brigade and then taken to the Tafel’s warehouse. More than 180 women and men are volunteering on both days in order to be able to replenish the camps of the Tafel in the communities they serve.

Perishable food and cash donations

At the top of the wish list are long-life foods such as canned goods (tuna, sausages, vegetables), coffee, tea, cocoa, pasta, rice, cheese and sausage (shrink-wrapped), margarine, oil, jam, honey and soups (in bags or jars) . Collection boxes are available for monetary donations.

Tafel employees from the municipalities once again emphasized the importance of the campaign at a meeting in the Burgsteinfurt facility on Bahnhofstrasse on Thursday. Harry Agethen and Hans-Bernd Haverkock made it clear that the number of Tafel customers is growing. This year alone, 450 new customers have been added. With 1,050 people now visiting the Tafel again, the demand is almost as high as it was at the beginning of the refugee crisis in 2015/2016.

This year, many refugees from Ukraine were added. At the same time, the number of Germans suffering from inflation is increasing due to the rising cost of living. The Tafel employees expect that even more people will need their support in the coming months. The appeal to help is therefore more urgent than before.
