The International Union for Conservation of Nature’s Red List lists a total of 1.42 million species. Of these, 40,084 species are endangered. The number of trunks is declining due to the destruction of swamps and fields.

It also points to the need to protect wetlands and fields. Around 6016 species of trunks have been found worldwide. Of these, 16% of the species’ trunks are on the verge of extinction. This is due to the destruction of swamps and fields and the inability to reproduce.

About a quarter of the endemic trunk species in the Middle East are endangered. However, deforestation also contributes to this. Deforestation has been found to be the leading cause of declining trunk numbers in the United States.

Decreases are mainly in the trunks of Europe and North America. Governments and other agencies have stated that the protection of wetlands should be a priority to protect the trunks.
