In 2023, 3.1 million housing units will be vacant in France, excluding Mayotte, or 8.2% of the housing stock, according to a study from INSEE published Tuesday. The number of vacant homes has increased by 1.2 million since 1990, an increase of 60%, and with “a sharp increase from 2005,” the report states.
Still according to INSEE, vacancy is on the rise in “almost all departments, with the exception of Corsica and Hérault”. “The share of vacant housing is higher in areas with the least population density […].
