Taiwan’s Central News Agency, citing the Disaster Response Center, reported that the death toll from the recent earthquake reached 10 people, while 1,106 others were injured.
The agency indicated that 705 people are still trapped among the rubble.
Most of the people trapped are in the tourist area – 688 people in a hotel complex in the Tianxiang Recreation Area, located in Taroko National Park in the mountainous areas, and 10 other people in the Nine Turns Tunnel.
Reports from there indicate that 18 people are considered missing, including four foreigners – an Indian citizen, a Canadian citizen and two Australian citizens.
The Chinese Earthquake Monitoring Center indicated that a 7.3-magnitude earthquake occurred last Wednesday off the coast of Hualien County, located in the eastern part of Taiwan.
According to statistics, earthquakes occur in Hualien County more than other areas on the island. In February 2018, a devastating earthquake measuring 6.5 magnitude killed 16 people and injured 285 others.
