Jean-Christophe Cambadélis presents his social-democratic “manifesto” and calls on “all those who believe in a realistic left” to unite
The former first secretary of the Socialist Party (PS) Jean-Christophe Cambadélis presented his ” manifest “ social democrat for “refounding a realistic left” et against the “put under guardianship [du PS] by the radical left”within the New Popular Ecological and Social Union (Nupes).
During a press conference, Mr. Cambadélis estimated that “the dynamic is not there” for the left as the legislative elections of June 12 and 19 approach. “Something is missing to mobilize the people, a feasible, realistic path, a social democratic left”he argued.
Son ” manifest “ thus sets out several principles: the search for ” compromise “ to defuse the “coming crises”the reaffirmation of “market economy” as « condition » sine qua non pour “to produce the maximum wealth compatible with what nature can give”a pledge against “breaking the tie” social by « redistribution »or the “Strengthening the European Union”.
The person concerned gives himself a year to arrive at a more precise program. In the meantime, he called “all those who believe in a realistic left” to converge and not to stay “everyone in his corner”. His appeal was addressed in particular to the president of the Occitanie region, Carole Delga, who wants to launch at the start of the “states general of the left”, at Stéphane Le Foll, who is organizing a rally on July 16 in Sarthe to “refound” social democracy, but also to François Hollande or Bernard Cazeneuve, who left the PS on May 4 to oppose the agreement with LFI.
“The PS must become social democrats or else a new party will have to be created”, warned Mr. Cambadélis. In his eyes, the current first secretary, Olivier Faure, operated a “substitute for refoundation” by making, on the occasion of the agreement creating the Nupes, “contortions on Europe, the economy and the Republic”.
“Mélenchon exists, it’s not a problem for me, I’m not obsessed with him”but, Mr. Cambadélis insisted, “this facade union will explode from the moment there is a social democratic offer”.
